'Maggots!': Man charged over mimed police shooting in court

A man who allegedly pointed his hand at police officers and fired off imaginary shots during his hearing in a Canberra court has been charged over the alleged threat.

At the time of the incident Matthew John Millard, 35, was present in court to face allegations his dog had attacked and seriously injured a police officer, and that he had stolen a mobility scooter.

When bail was denied at the end of the hearing, Mr Millard allegedly mimed a gun with his fingers and imitated shooting three police officers present, calling them "f***ing maggots".

He appeared in court today via video link, and was charged with three counts of threatening to cause harm to a person involved in legal proceedings.

Magistrate Bernadette Boss told the court she would not be able to hear the case, as she was present during the alleged incident.

"I may be called as a witness," she said.

The constable allegedly attacked by the dog was bitten on her hip, calf, and hand, and suffered from nerve and tendon damage.

Much of her calf muscle was removed from the bone, and the ACT Magistrates Court today heard she might require additional surgery.

In today's hearing, Mr Millard withdrew his bail application, meaning he will remain behind bars.

He is expected to return to court July 18.
