Days after her announcement was hounded by conspiracy theorists, Magda Szubanski has taken to social media to thank fans for their outpouring of support amid her battle with cancer.
ICYMI, the Aussie icon revealed in a social media post earlier this week that she has been diagnosed with a rare and fast-moving form of blood cancer called Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
Appearing in the video with shaved hair in anticipation of it “falling out”, the Kath & Kim star described the cancer as “one of the nasty ones”, but said she is remaining “hopeful” while surrounding herself with “beautiful friends and family and an incredible medical support team”.

While Szubanski’s announcement was met with an outpouring of well wishes, including from the likes of Carrie Bickmore, Hugh Sheridan and Sam Neill, a few rogue conspiracy theorists took it upon themselves to falsely and insensitively link Szubanski’s diagnosis to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Per 9Honey, some conspiracy theorists claimed Szubanski has a form of “turbo cancer,” which anti-vaxxers claim is linked to the vaccine despite research proving the theory to be unfounded.
As for what that even has to do with Szubanski, the comedian was involved in a COVID-19 messaging campaign back in 2020, and it saw her appear as her beloved character Sharon Strzelecki while discussing the vaccination rules at the time, drawing the ire of anti-vaxxers.
On Friday, Szubanski took to X to respond to all the conspiracy theorists, even though it was “not the conversation I want to be having right now”, she wrote.
“Let me be very very clear…I helped out as a good citizen to morale boost during COVID but I NEVAH EVAH was an ‘avid supporter of vaccinations’ and categorically DID NOT insist on them for others,” Szubanski said.
“I won’t ignore incorrect information intended to warp the narrative and the truth.”
Thankfully, it seems the deserved well wishes have far outweighed all the misinformed trolls, since Szubanski took to Instagram today to thank fans for their “overwhelming” support.
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the love and support,” she said while holding back tears in the new clip.
“It’s just been so moving and, really, you are the wind beneath my wings.”

Rebecca Gibney and Celeste Barber were among those to share messages of support in the comments, and all of us here in the PEDESTRIAN.TV office are in the same boat.
You got this, Magda!
