Beloved Australian icon Magda Szubanski has shared an update from hospital during treatment for her rare form of cancer.
The Kath and Kim star took to Instagram on Sunday to share a heartfelt message to a little girl who made her day as she underwent chemotherapy for an aggressive form of blood cancer.
“This is a special shout-out to little 10-year-old Annabella Willis in Adelaide,” the 64-year-old comedian said from her hospital bed.
“I just wanted to say, darling, thank you so much for your ‘impressionation’ [sic] of Sharon Strzelecki. I’m in here having chemo, and it really cheered me up, and I’m very touched. That was a beautiful thing to do. Thank you, my sweet, lots of love to you and lots of love to you all.”
In the caption, Magda admitted that the treatment had been a bit rough, but Annabella’s kindhearted impression of her famous Kath and Kim character, Sharon Strzelecki, for book week lifted her spirits.
“Chemo smackin’ me around right now, and you really cheered me up. Bless you, my darling,” she wrote.
Fans and friends alike took to the comments to send their well-wishes to Magda and praise the 10-year-old for her lovely gesture.
“Sending all the love in the world to you, Magda darling,” wrote Nigella Lawson.
“We love you, Magda!” commented a fan.
“Bless you, beautiful lady. Whole of Australia is backing you,” said another fan.
“Dear Magda, I’m in hospital too and have just been through treatment. I feel so deeply for you, you beautiful woman. I hope you have tender care around you when it’s hard and that your strength returns as mine is starting to💚,” wrote another.
Magda first revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage four mantle cell lymphoma — an aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that starts in the lymph nodes — in May this year.
At the TV WEEK Logies last month, Magda was inducted into the hall of fame for her vast contribution to the Australian television and media landscape.
“Let’s get this out of the way. I have not been awarded this honour because I have cancer,” she said in a pre-taped message.
“I am getting this because of 40 years of hard work — lobbying, bribing, threatening, whatever it took.”
