MAGA Figures Warn Discontent With Trump Over Handling Of Epstein Case Is Not Going Away: 'Massively Misreading His Base'

President Donald Trump

Members of President Donald Trump's MAGA base are warning that discontent with him and the administration over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case is not going away.

Speaking to Axios, a MAGA media figure claimed that the "Epstein situation is sending massive ripples through the base," adding that "trust is being lost."

The person added that most of the criticism is aimed at "the people around him, but somewhat Trump" also. "People were promised Epstein files and they've been lied to over and over and over again. This will not just go away," the person added.

Most of the criticism is being aimed at Attorney General Pam Bondi, especially considering that in February she had claimed the Epstein client list was "sitting on her desk to be reviewed." She sought to clarify the matter, saying her comment referred to that file along with the John F. Kennedy assassination and 9/11 documents.

However, other MAGA figures are not accepting the explanation. "As someone who voted for the president, campaigned for the president a lot — I'm not attacking the president, but I think even people who are fully on board with the bulk of the MAGA agenda are like, 'This is too much, actually,'" said commentator Tucker Carlson, who has also been critical of Trump's decision to bomb Iran's nuclear sites. Other figures like Laura Loomer and Elon Musk have echoed the claims.

Axios noted that FBI director Kash Patel and deputy director Dan Bongino, deeply involved in the matter before entering the government, didn't face the same level of criticism. Some are claiming they are being silenced, the outlet noted, or that the files were purged before they entered the government.

In that context, MAGA influencer Liz Wheeler said on Tuesday that "people were promised Epstein files and they've been lied to over and over and over again." She was responding to the moment when Trump rebuked a journalist over a question about Epstein on Tuesday. Concretely, the reported asked Attorney General Pam Bondi whether Epstein had ever worked for an American or foreign intelligence agency.

Bondi began to respond, but before she could continue, President Trump interjected, asking if he could interrupt. "Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy's been talked about for years," Trump said, while Bondi remained stone-faced.

"You're asking—we have Texas, we have this, we have all of the things, and are people still talking about this guy? This creep?" he continued, despite the late disgraced financier claiming he was "Donald's closest friend for 10 years" in 2017.

However, Axios noted that "there's no indication that MAGA will defect from Trump himself in serious number," as "loyalty to the president remains the movement's defining feature."

Speaking to the Washington Post this week, two officials claimed President Donald Trump's base will not abandon him as a result of the development, which has sparked backlash among some high-profile influencers in the movement.

"They're not going to hang up their MAGA hat and call it a day," an official told the outlet, adding that those voicing their outrage are a "vocal minority." "By no means are the loud people on X an accurate representation of the nearly 80 million people who voted for the president," the official added.
