MAFS Star Evelyn Ellis Reveals Why Reality TV Stars Get Snubbed From Australian Fashion Week

Married At First Sight (MAFS) star Evelyn Ellis has spilled the beans on why reality TV stars — particularly MAFS participants — have been snubbed from attending Australian Fashion Week.

If you’re wondering why there are a bunch of folks prancing around in fab frocks across Sydney, you might’ve missed the memo that it’s officially Australian Fashion Week! And although its main purpose is to showcase Australian designers and up-and-coming stylists, it’s also an opportunity for reality TV stars to get their poses in for the ‘gram.

But according to Daily Mail Australia, a plethora of MAFS castmates have been snubbed from copping tickets, with PR teams and Aussie designers “culling guest lists in favour of prestige, polish and stronger brand alignment”.

MAFS’ Evelyn Ellis reveals why reality TV stars get snubbed at Australian Fashion Week

This year’s Shark Beauty voxpop host, and one of the lucky MAFS stars who gets to grace Australian Fashion Week, Evelyn Ellis, said she believes brands “are getting really smart” when curating their guest lists.

“I honestly think the industry is evolving in such a cool way. Fashion Week now is so much more about culture, entertainment and digital influence, not just traditional fashion media,” Ellis told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“Brands are getting really smart about inviting people who genuinely connect with audiences and create excitement around the event, and I think that’s a positive thing. At the end of the day, if you love fashion, support the designers and can bring attention to Australian brands, there should be space for everyone.”

Reality TV stars need to know what it takes to make it in Australian media

Ellis also highlighted that some reality TV stars assume they’ll immediately get media opportunities after appearing on a show. However, they often forget that it takes work and grit to make waves in Australian media.

“Ex-reality TV stars think that they can jump off a show, and if a media career is something they want, [they] think it’s going to be handed to them,” she said.

“It’s okay to want a career in media, but what a lot of people get twisted is the fact that, like many fields, you have to put in the work.

“If fashion is something you want to do, then show love to the designers and show a genuine interest in what you’re stepping into. Also, I think I can say this, but pivoting from reality TV is not easy, ESPECIALLY the stigma that MAFS has.”

Although there have been whispers of folks getting knocked back from Australian Fashion Week shows, the former reality TV brides say there’s a “real lack of celebrity” in Australian media.

“Times are changing, and people need to accept that some reality TV stars will continue to hold space in the industry, if people like it or not,” she added.

With Ellis being one of the few stars to nab front row seats at Australian Fashion Week and other media events — alongside other stars, such as Cam Merchant, Jules Robinson and Carina Mirabile — she has seen some cooked things happen.

Ellis revealed that one of the wildest things she experienced at Australian Fashion Week was “watching someone I know who didn’t have a ticket walk straight into a show and sit front row”. Unfortunately, she didn’t spill the beans on who it was.
