Married At First Sight (MAFS) bride Rachel Gilmore has addressed speculation that she’s gotten back with her on-screen husband Steven Danyluk after a weekend reunion in Sydney sent the rumour mill into overdrive.
While the couple officially split late last year, they’ve kept fans guessing about their relationship status with a string of recent appearances — from filming Stan’s MAFS: After The Dinner Party to hitting up Drag Bingo and sitting side-by-side at a MAFS watch party.
Despite calls from viewers to get back together, Rachel has asserted to PEDESTRIAN.TV that she isn’t interested in looking back, especially at a partner who didn’t value her in the moment.
“I understand there is confusion between Steven and I, I get that, but the door is very much shut on the possibility of Steven and I having a romantic relationship,” she said.
“I don’t want to go back to someone who couldn’t realise what he had when he had it. Having him say things like, ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone’, that’s not fair because you had me and you didn’t want to put in the effort or the priority for our relationship.”

Where Rachel stands with Steven now
Rachel revealed that she and Steven continued speaking while the show was airing on TV, and although there was “friction” watching the Couples Retreat drama unfold and support for one another during emotional moments, there was never a discussion about getting back together.
“We have had this show keeping us together, in a way, and we still have this immense respect and care for each other,” she shared. “It does bring up those conflicting feelings and it does confuse your heart a bit because you’re like, ‘But we were so good, why didn’t this work?’.”
Moving forward, Rachel believes closing the chapter with Steven will be “amazing” for both of their mental health; however, they will still try to maintain a friendship.
“We probably just won’t be as close, because we both need to be able to heal our hearts, find ourselves as people again, rebuild ourselves, and have more of a normal friendship rather than calling each other being like, ‘Oh my god, wasn’t that such a special moment?’,” she said.
“I would like to think we can stay friends and move forward as friends, but if we fall apart and drift away as friends as well, that’s really normal, because you can’t always be friends with your exes completely as time moves on.”
What’s next for Rachel?
With the Steven chapter firmly closed, Rachel is now looking toward an uncertain but exciting future. She plans to go “radio silent” for the rest of April before reintroducing herself to the world in May, and she’s open to any opportunities that come her way.
“I’m just an everyday girly who went from working nine to five in a corporate office. I put myself out there, I took a leap of faith and showed up with courage and vulnerability for three months, and again for another three months of airing,” she remarked.
“When words like ‘fan favourite’ are thrown around, I don’t know what to do with it because I never thought that people would like me.”
Well, whether she likes the praise or not, there’s no denying that Rachel was one of the (very few) highlights from this year’s season of MAFS. Bring on the next chapter — just don’t expect Steven to be in it.
