MAFS’ Martha Kalifatidis Defends Her Family’s Living Sitch: ‘Might Not Make Sense To Everyone’

Martha-Kalifatidis

Married At First Sight star Martha Kalifatidis has explained why she still lives with her parents while raising her young children, saying the living arrangement “works for us”.

Martha appeared as a participant on the sixth season of the reality show back in 2019, and was matched with Michael Brunelli, who she went on to have two kids with.

The young fam live in Melbourne with Martha’s parents, Theo and Mary, the latter of whom makes frequent (hilarious) appearances on Martha’s social media.

When asked by a fan on Instagram whether it was “time [she] moved out of your parents’ home now [she] has a family”, Martha defended the choice because of the benefits of an extra pair of hands while raising her children.

“I know our living arrangement might not make sense to everyone, but it works really well for us,” Martha wrote. “We have support, the kids are surrounded by love and we all actually get along (surprise)! If this wasn’t the case, we probably wouldn’t be here!”

Martha went on to say that her eldest child, Lucius, appreciates the “attention” his grandparents can give him while her and Michael are busy with their months-old daughter Sunday, saying it “helps him not feel pushed aside during such a big transition”.

The reality star also touted the extra me-time she gets when her parents take some of the load off with the kids, like “being able to shower, blow-dry my hair and feel somewhat human some days”.

“I actually think support makes you enjoy parenthood more. You’re less burnt out, less overwhelmed and less likely to resent the hard parts because you’re not doing everything completely alone,” she wrote.

Martha and Michael shared news of Sunday’s birth in March, while Lucius is three years old. The couple got officially engaged (not MAFS ‘engaged’) in 2021, but have yet to actually tie the knot.

They are one of the lucky few whose relationship made it out of the MAFS experiment unscathed, but don’t hold your breath for another reality TV outing anytime soon.

Last year, Martha revealed she rejected an offer to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, while the reports of her and Michael featuring in a celebrity edition of The Block never came to fruition.

At least when the right gig comes along, she’ll have someone to help back at home!
