After refusing to do any of the tasks during Crash Course Week, humiliating her partner Joel Moses at the Dinner Party and finding it hard to apologise to him at the Commitment Ceremony, Juliette Fava one-upped her “villain” status when she wrote “stay” in Sunday night’s episode.
The 27-year-old receptionist’s decision meant that she and Joel would remain in the experiment for another week, even though he wrote “leave” and was desperate to get the hell out of there.
While the experts and fellow participants struggled to understand why Juliette would want to continue a relationship with someone she admittedly “doesn’t feel that much hatred towards” and barely wanted to be in the same room as, Joel has told PEDESTRIAN.TV he completely understands the logic behind her decision.
“She wants attention — that’s the only thing that she craves,” he said. “That’s why she creates drama, because Juliette’s not interesting enough, but when she goes into a psychotic rage against me, she gets attention, doesn’t she?”
Joel claimed that Juliette told him during filming that she was a massive reality TV fan, so it wasn’t a huge surprise that she would want to continue the experience for as long as she could.
“We were watching a reality TV show called Vanderpump Rules, and she said to me, ‘My favourite thing in the entire world is reality TV’. All she watches is reality TV, like she idolises reality TV,” he recalled. “She also said, ‘My favourite thing in the entire world is gossip, I love gossiping more than anything’. So go figure.”

How Joel made his decision to write ‘leave’
For his part, Joel confessed that he was also tempted to write “stay” because he was having so much fun on the reality show and wanted to continue filming with his co-stars.
“I was loving being on camera, having banter with the crew and interacting with the other cast, so there were a lot of aspects that I liked about it,” he admitted.
However, he understood that the point of MAFS was to form a romantic connection, and he knew there was no way they could overcome the issues in their relationship.
“Part of the reason why I was thinking of writing ‘stay’ before I came to my senses was that I was 1000 per cent convinced that Juliette would write ‘leave’, because why would she want to stay with me when she f**king hates me?” he remarked.
“But I could not in good conscience write ‘stay’ — I would hate myself forever for being such a fraud. I had to stand by my principles and values as a man who cannot accept being treated like that.”

Although Juliette’s decision hurt Joel at the time, he admittedly looks back fondly on the Commitment Ceremony for how dramatic it was.
“It was a pretty shocking moment; everyone was shocked. Even the experts said, ‘Juliette, we’re a bit perplexed. It seems like you hate him’, and I think I said that too,” he said.
“Honestly, I think it was one of the best Commitment Ceremonies of all time, you just can’t beat it. What people missed out on seeing with Brook is that she didn’t get her comeuppance. Brook wasn’t held to account; she ran off. But Juliette sat through it all.”
Joel went so far as to call Juliette the “supervillain” of the season, who “got the justice everyone wanted to see”. Well, the “supervillain” may have gotten what she seemingly deserved this week after treating her partner so horribly, but we all know the producers love a redemption arc. Let’s just wait and see if Juliette can pull that off.
