We’re getting more details ahead of Married At First Sight’s [MAFS] upcoming season, including casting tea in the form of rumoured new same-sex couple Sam Stanton and Chris Robinson.
The casting update comes courtesy of the Daily Mail, which reported that the pair — who hail from Adelaide and Sydney, respectively — tied the knot for the show at a ceremony in Sydney earlier this week, midway through the already filming 13th season.
Per the publication, Stanton is a fitness model and Robinson is a personal trainer (match made in MAFS heaven!), and they were one of three intruder couples who deliberately arrived mid-season to spice things up with the other contestants.
It marks the fourth time MAFS has cast a same-sex couple, with Craig Roach and Andy John becoming the first gay grooms to grace the show during its third season in 2016.
More recently, Amanda Micallef and Tash Herz made history as the first lesbian pairing in 2020, while Michael Felix and Stephen Stewart appeared in season 11 last year.
You might’ve guessed it, but none of those mentioned couples made it to final vows, which isn’t exactly shocking in the MAFS universe.
Stanton and Robinson’s reported casting wasn’t the only morsel of intel we got ahead of season 13, with a source saying that their role as intruders has been given a mandate by producers.
Apparently, all three intruder newlyweds were told they cannot leave the experiment, to avoid last season’s shitshow where intruders began dropping like flies.
“They were told from the get-go that they need to create drama and keep it flowing,” an insider told the Daily Mail.
“Even if they don’t hit it off romantically, they’ve been asked to ride it out until the end of filming,” they added.
While we’re still some way off from the premiere of season 13, we have been drip-fed a few juicy morsels as filming has gotten underway.
There’s been paparazzi shots of certain brides and grooms, supposed leaks of the full cast list, and claims that every couple from next year’s batch is a “clout chaser”. Shock horror!
Oh, we’ve also learned that one couple has apparently already been booted from the show.
With all that, I think a show about the behind-the-scenes antics needs to be pitched alongside MAFS proper for 2026. If you couldn’t tell, I’ll be strapped the fuck in for both.
