Mae Muller will represent the United Kingdom in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest

Mae Muller is the United Kingdom's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Rylan Clark joined Zoe Ball for the announcement on her BBC Radio 2 morning breakfast show this morning. Rylan acts as Eurovision semi-final commentator alongside fellow radio host Scott Mills.

The globally celebrate pop star was one of the most speculated artists from this year's lineup, fending off Rina Sawayama, Birdy, and Raye for the position.

Breaking the news to Eurovision fans, Zoe asked Mae to officially reveal herself. With a wave of excitement, Mae finally said: "I am Mae Muller and I am representing the UK in this year's Eurovision! I've been wanting to say that for months!

"That has been on my lips and in my brain for months. I've known for like two months and I love to chat so it's been so hard to keep it a secret." Her track, I Wrote A Song, is this year's entry.

Mae will follow in the footsteps of Sam Ryder who managed to bag the UK their best position in over two decadeslast year. The rock star walked away the winner of the televote but fell short of the crown, only beaten by that year's winners, Kalush Orchestra.

The contest was supposed to be housed in Ukraine following their win but the European Broadcasting Union deemed it unsafe to do so after considering the Russian invasion. The UK was picked as the host nation due to its second placement but Liverpool landed the event after a spectacular bid from its Culture Liverpool team.
