MADURAI/TRICHY: Fresh Covid-19 cases recorded in Madurai district dropped to 50 on Thursday, which is the least in a day in the last 37 days. The district had 289 recoveries, as the number of active cases dropped to 1,174.
A total of three Covid-19 deaths were recorded in the district on Thursday. They were aged between 78 and 82 years, had comorbidities and had died on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Trichy recorded a dip in the fresh Covid-19 cases of Covid-19 on Thursday with 105 new cases compared to Wednesday’s 119. The number of active cases stood at 1,986 and the district discharged 359 patients on Thursday. The death toll of the district went up to 1,153 with one more casualty.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in 10 southern districts of Tamil Nadu dropped to 8,995 on Thursday from 10,783 on Wednesday. Except for Kanyakumari (2,143), Tirunelveli (1,296) and Madurai (1,174), the other seven districts in the region have less than 1,000 active cases each.
All the districts in the southern region recorded less than 100 new cases for the second day in a row, as the number of new cases recorded in the region dropped to 336 on Thursday. Tenkasi (7) recorded the least, followed by Ramanathapuram (16), Dindigul (20), Theni (21), Tuticorin (22), Sivagangai (31), Virudhunagar (37), Tirunelveli (42), Madurai (50) and Kanyakumari (90). The region recorded 2,122 recoveries. But for Madurai no Covid-19 death was recorded in the region.
Central region comprising nine districts including Trichy posted 359 fresh cases on Thursday, lesser than the Wednesday’s 388. The region had 7,574 active cases as of Thursday.
The region discharged 1,352 patients. The death toll of the region touched 4,660 with two casualties. Of the total of 383,463 positive cases, the region discharged 371,229 patients so far.
