Agro-processing units for Sholavandan

Sholavandan is situated on the banks of river Vaigai with the predominant vocation of its people being agriculture and its allied activities. It used to be known for its betel vines and coconut groves -  the betel vines were much sought after and were sent to different parts of the country and many countries. However, over the decades,  betel vine cultivation had lost its sheen with many moving to more lucrative pastures. As Sholavandan still boasts of coconut cultivation, concerted efforts must be made to bring in agro- processing industries so as to generate employment.

Dangerous spot in Tirunagar

There is an electric wire passing across Annai Sivagami Nagar Link Street in Kurinji Nagar near Thanakkankulam, that is dangling down. Drivers of vehicles when they drive on this street are afraid that the wire may hit the vehicle’s roof.  Because of this, drivers of school buses and vans are scared to use the road.  If two vehicles come on opposite directions, one has to wait until the other crosses lest they will hit the wire. The residents are also afraid as the transmission line crosses very near their houses. Only people who are aware of the danger can pass this area cautiously. The authorities must set this right either by tightening the wire between the two posts or by placing a post between the two and raising the height before anything untoward happens.

 D. Ganesh,
