Madras high court seeks time limit to fill Tangedco vacancies

CHENNAI: The Madras high court has directed the Tangedco to file a report intimating the time limit required to fill up 23,968 vacant posts of field assistant and the feasibility of making appointments on a temporary basis till the posts are filled permanently.

Justice D Krishnakumar passed the order on a batch of pleas seeking to fill up the vacancies.

When the plea came up for hearing, Tangedco submitted that it has issued notifications inviting applications online from the open market for various posts totalling to 5,318 and 2,900 posts of Field Assistant (Trainee).

“Due to the restrictions imposed to control Covid-19, the selection process has not been concluded,” they said.

A proposal was submitted to the board seeking approval to cancel the notifications already issued during 2020 and 2021 and also to fill a certain number of posts including 8,000 vacancies in the post of field assistants through TNPSC.

The board has been directed to cancel the existing notification and to obtain the approval of the government for recruitment through TNPSC, Tangedco said.

Recording the submissions, the court passed the order and adjourned the hearing to July 11.
