A Perth mother accused of murdering her 14-month-old son will continue to receive treatment in a secure psychiatric facility until her next court appearance in six weeks.

Sara Jade McCullock, 28, is alleged to have killed the boy at the family's home in Madora Bay, south of Perth, in the early hours of April 27.

Police who attended the premises to investigate a noise complaint found the toddler unresponsive.

First aid was administered but the boy could not be revived.

Ms McCullock made her first court appearance last weekend and was remanded to the Frankland Centre at Graylands Hospital for psychiatric treatment.

She appeared briefly in the Perth Magistrates Court this morning via video link and she spoke only to confirm her name.

Her lawyer, Sharon Auburn, told the court she had only recently been appointed to represent Ms McCullock but she had spoken to the investigating officer and her family members, and she hoped to be able to visit her on the weekend.

Magistrate Sandra De Maio said the court had received medical reports which stated Ms McCullock needed to stay where she was to receive further treatment.

Ms De Maio told Ms McCullock she did not want her to worry because she would be getting the treatment she needed.

Ms McCullock's next court appearance will be on June 22 in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court when she will again appear via video link.
