Madonna was 'constantly pushing herself' before being placed on 'ventilator' in hospital

Madonna developed a "serious bacterial infection" which led to the singer postponing her world tour, it was revealed earlier this week.

And now it has been reported that the singer has been "constantly pushing herself" in recent weeks and months as her now-postponed world tour loomed.

The 64-year-old starlet has been in the public eye for years, with the Material Girl singer planning to push herself to the limit for her 84-date Celebration tour, which was due to commence next month.

Pals of the blonde beauty, who was intubated while in an intensive care unit in recent days, have now spoken out, with them urging her to realise that she needs to slow down.

One friend of the Queen of Pop has spoken to Page Six with them touching on her "age" and "history of injuries".

"She is the one constantly pushing herself, but she has to realise that, while she is as good as the people she is working with, many of them are a fraction of her age and without her history of injuries," they told the outlet.

They then noted that "other acts" who are older than Madonna are still touring and "on the road", but added how "they aren’t dancing and performing like she does".

This comes after reports that said Madonna was rehearsing for up to 12-hours a day in preparation for her global tour.

The friend went on to tell the publication that Madonna "certainly did not bring this on herself" before noting that "she is as human and as frail" as all of us.

Madonna was meant to be taking to the stage on July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but now there will be a new start date issued when the singer has recovered - although it is not currently known when this will be.

When the news of Madonna's health scare broke on Wednesday, reports said that the star was "intubated" for at least one night before having the tube removed, with her daughter Lourdes remaining by her side throughout the ordeal.

Intubation is a process where a tube is inserted through a person's mouth or nose, with it then going down to their trachea (which is also known as the airway or windpipe).

Prior to her ICU stay and intubation, Madonna was found "unresponsive" over the weekend, with her now said to be recovering at home with medical care.
