Madonna wages war on social media and says Instagram just 'makes you feel bad'

Madonna has waged war on social media by accusing sites like Instagram of only existing to make users "feel bad".

The pop superstar, 60, who has almost 14 million Instagram followers, issued a stark warning to fans about the dangers of living life through online profiles.

Despite her own usage of the sites, she insists social media can feed negativity and fuel body insecurities, and also lead to bullying.

In an interview with The Sun , she said: "You get caught up in comparing yourself to others. I think Instagram is made to make you feel bad.

"People are really a slave to winning people’s approvals.”

Madonna went on to explain she feels "lucky" to have grown up in a world without social media - especially in her days as a fledgling pop star.

She said: “I was lucky enough to have a life as an artist before the phone and Instagram and social media because I did have that time to develop as an artist and a human without feeling the pressure of judgment of other people or comparing myself to other people.

Madonna added that social media culture now “runs people’s lives”.

The veteran singer is returning to the spotlight this week by launching a new album called Madame X, which has been billed as her best work in 15 years.

The tracks include collaborations with her longtime producer Mirwais as well as pal Diplo.

She is hitting the road for a tour in 2019 and will play her most intimate gigs in years with 15 shows at the London Palladium.
