Pop superstar Madonna has come under fire for her "car crash" Eurovision performance, with punters taking to social media to pan the singer's pitch (or lack thereof).
Donning a glittered X eyepatch, the music icon took to the stage during the 2019 grand final to perform a pared-back rendition of her classic hit Like a Prayer and her new single Future.
But what should have been an evening of theatrical fun took a different turn when audiences found themselves distracted by the singer's vocals — for all the wrong reasons.
"This is a car crash, I can't look away," wrote one viewer, taking aim at Madonna's perceived overreliance on autotune.
"Flat as a pancake," wrote another.
Another likened the performance to a "pissed Auntie doing her best Madonna rendition on karaoke", while others credited the singer for bringing Eurovision fans together "in united disappointment".
Armchair critics were not the only ones to roast the superstar's Eurovision debut, however.
The performance even prompted Netherlands judge Emma Wortelboer to quip: "I'm so thankful for tonight and for Madonna's autotune."
Ahead of her performance, the 61-year-old said she hoped to bring people together through her music.
"Look at all the delegates behind us. So many countries that I have been privileged enough to visit and experience, the one thing that brings me to those countries is music," she told host Assi Azar.
"So let's never underestimate the power of music to bring people together."
Though she did not directly address calls to boycott Israel's hosting of the event, dancers wearing Palestinian and Israeli flags embraced at the end of her song Future.
