Madonna finally confirms Eurovision performance with message of peace

Madonna has finally confirmed that she will be performing at this year's Eurovison Song Contest on Saturday night.

The US pop star described by event organisers as "the incomparable music icon" will perform two songs: her 1989 hit Like A Prayer and her new single, Future.

There has been a long wait to see if the superstar would perform at the worldwide singing competition after controversy surrounding the event's location, Tel Aviv in Israel.

Pro-Palenstine activists have called for companies, performers and governments to disengage from the event.

However Madonna said in a statement to Reuters: "I’ll never stop playing music to suit someone’s political agenda nor will I stop speaking out against violations of human rights wherever in the world they may be.

"My heart breaks every time I hear about the innocent lives that are lost in this region and the violence that is so often perpetuated to suit the political goals of people who benefit from this ancient conflict.

"I hope and pray that we will soon break free from this terrible cycle of destruction and create a new path towards peace."

When, where and what time is the Eurovision Song Contest 2019?

Although it'll be Madonna's first time on the Eurovision stage, it will be the third time she has sung in Israel.

The announcement was made ahead of last night's second semi-final. Jon Ola Sand, executive supervisor of the event, said: "We are pleased to finally confirm that the incomparable music icon Madonna will join us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

"Performing live during the biggest entertainment show in the world will be a special moment for everyone - not least the fans.

"The talent on display in the competition this year is phenomenal and I'm sure the artists will further be inspired by her incredible performance and staging.

"We know that it will be an evening to remember and can't wait to share it with everyone watching."

Israel is hosting the Eurovision contest after local singer Netta Barzilai won the 2018 contest with her performance of Toy.

Madonna's album "Madame X” is set to be released in June 2019.
