Madonna brings the 2015 Brit awards crashing to a close

Many may chastise the Brits for being too safe, but this year’s ceremony was capped off by a perilous performance by Madonna, who fell from the stage during her rendition of new single Living For Love.

In the most shocking moment in Brits history since Adele flicked the bird at James Cordon, the Queen of Pop’s performance came to a crashing climax following a wardrobe malfunction.

It’s been 20 years since Madonna last took to the stage at the awards ceremony, and her comeback was the most anticipated appearance of the night. Living For Love began with a message of self empowerment as she marched through the audience, surrounded by her dancers who were each adorned in bejewelled bull headgear. Unfortunately, she was momentarily halted, but the consumate professional rose to her feet and continued with her performance.

The singer has since explained via Instagram that her cape was “tied too tight” and was presumably supposed to be removed by her dancers.

The pop star’s forthcoming 13th studio album, Rebel Heart, will be released on 9 March. Her latest fall from grace follows a number of mishaps during her new album campaign: first, she described the leak of several Rebel Heart songs as “artistic rape” and “a form of terrorism”, before her various social media exploits courted controversy when she doctored images of Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.

Her last appearance at the Brits was in 1995, when she performed Bedtime Stories while dressed in white and accompanied by a wind machine.
