Madhya Pradesh: Woman abducted before wedding, gangraped for 21 days

BHOPAL: A 21-year-old woman was kidnapped just three days before her wedding and gangraped in captivity for 21 days before police rescued her on February 17 from Balaghat district.

The survivor has told police that she was sitting outside her house in Singrauli district on January 27 when someone sneaked up from behind and forced her to smell a chemical that rendered her unconscious. When she came to her senses, she says, she found herself in captivity in Jabalpur, over 350km away.

The day she was kidnapped, her parents had filed a missing person’s report with police. “We were told that a woman whose wedding was scheduled on January 30 had gone missing. After investigations, she was recovered from Balaghat district on February 17. She has alleged that she was abducted by two men, who raped her,” police officer Santosh Tiwari told TOI.

Sources said that the woman was drugged and shuttled between several places hundreds of kilometres apart. One of the suspects has been arrested and police are looking for the other man.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
