Madhya Pradesh: War of words over chapter on RSS founder in MBBS course

BHOPAL: The state government’s decision to include chapters on RSS founder Dr Keshav Hedgewar and Jan Sangh founder Deendayal Upadhyaya, in the foundation course of MBBS, has triggered a political war of words between Congress and the ruling BJP.

Rejecting Congress’s allegations, BJP state president V D Sharma said RSS leaders are ideals of the country and it is important for doctors, apart from others, to know about their contributions.

“Doctors should also know who has done what for the country. This should be mandatory. Along with Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad and other freedom fighters, Hedgewar also contributed by tying the country in one thread. It is a matter of pride that by establishing RSS, a big idea was given to the country,” said Sharma.

As per reports, MBBS students in Madhya Pradesh will read about RSS founder Hedgewar and Upadhyaya in their foundation course.

Congress leader and PCC chief Kamal Nath alleged that BJP was trying to impose its ideology in the field of education for many years.

“This is also part of the same agenda that MBBS students will be taught the thoughts of RSS and Jana Sangh leaders. There have been many great leaders in the country who have contributed significantly from the freedom struggle to the development of the country. What have RSS leaders done?” asked Nath.

Sharma, who is also the Lok Sabha member from Khajuraho, said that Congress has its own ideals. “Babasaheb Ambedkar also contributed to the integrity of the country and played an important role. Why should there not be information about Babasaheb? I want to ask those who want to raise questions, do you want to oppose him?”, he said.

“Is it wrong to give information about Babasaheb to doctors, who are also a part of society after completing their medical education? Is it wrong to give information about Upadhyaya ji, who gave the idea of Antyodaya, on the basis of which the world’s largest political party stands today,” added Sharma.
