Madhya Pradesh: Unemployed engineer & wife consume poison, slit throats of their children in Misrod

BHOPAL: In an alleged suicide pact reported in Misrod locality on Saturday morning, a 55-year-old unemployed civil engineer and his wife consumed poison at their flat in Sahara Estate Colony.

The couple later slit the throat of their 16-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter with a floor-tiles cutter machine while they were sleeping.

The son died on the spot while at the time when they were slitting the daughter's throat the tiles cutter machine broke.

The man and his son died on the spot while his wife went out and informed the neighbours about the incident.

Misrod police rushed to the spot on getting information from neighbours and rushed the woman and her daughter to a hospital in critical condition where they were undergoing treatment.

Senior police officers including SP (South) Sai Krishna S Thota, ASP Rajesh Bhadouria along with SHO Misrod Niranjan Sharma reached the spot and started investigations.

SP Thota said that police have recovered a three-and-a-half page suicide note written mostly by the deceased man stating that he was unemployed for past many months and the family was going through acute financial crisis.

They had taken a house loan and were unable to pay the instalments due to which the outstanding dues were rising day after day.

SP Thota said that the man mentioned in his suicide note that he was not able to bear the expenses of his children's education and suspected that they would not have a good future after him so he decided to take their lives.

"It is suspected that the man and his wife fed something to their children due to which they were fast asleep when their throats were slit," said SP Thota.

There were blood stains all over the walls and floor of the room where the deceased man and his wife slit the throats of their children.

SP Thota said that the deceased Ravi Thakre, 55, a resident of Sahara Estate Colony in Misrod, was a diploma holder in civil engineering. He resided along with his wife Ranjana Thakre, son Chirag Thakre and daughter Gunjan Thakre.

SP Thota said that it was suspected that Thakre and his consumed poison in the wee hours of Saturday and then slit the throats of their children.

They first slit the throat of their son Chirag and he died on the spot.

When they were slitting the throat of their daughter Gunjan, either their tile cutter broke or the power supply snapped due to which she survived.

Early in the morning, Ranjana went out and informed the neighbours about their extreme step.

The neighbours informed police after which Misrod police rushed to the spot and started investigations.

SP Thota said that Ravi and his son Chirag died while their Ranjana and Gunjan were rushed to Hamidia hospital where they were undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Neighbours told police that the deceased civil engineer was unemployed for a long time and he was the sole breadwinner of the family.

The family was going through an acute financial crisis for a long time.
