Madhya Pradesh: Uma Bharti hurls stone at liquor shop, BJP keeps its distance

BHOPAL: Around six months ago, BJP veteran Uma Bharti had said she would take up the ‘Latth’ (stick) to bring about prohibition. On Sunday, she picked up a stone. A video of the former chief minister Uma Bharti purportedly hurling a stone at a liquor shop in Bhopal went viral on Sunday. The shop is believed to be in BHEL Township.

Bharti later tweeted that she took action to protect women, saying men drink liquor at the shop and ogle at women residents of the locality. In the video, Bharti is seen walking up to the shop, which is barricaded off with ropes. A group of supporters and camerapersons are with Bharti when she crosses the rope barricades and enters the shop.

BJP sought to distance itself from Bharti’s act. Former BJP state chief spokesperson Deepak Vijayvargiya said, “Uma Bharti can put forth her views on different issues, including prohibition, but if her act of protest is against the law, only she can talk about it. ”
