Madhya Pradesh: Sultry days ahead, rain likely from Sunday

BHOPAL: Sticky weather is really making it difficult for people of Madhya Pradesh.

Only six places in MP received light showers on Thursday, but absence of a strong system left the majority of state hot and humid. Absence of good rainfall in the last three weeks has increased the day as well as night temperature in Bhopal way above the normal mark.

Met officials said, there is a trough line over Guna and a low pressure area over Kutch in Gujarat, leading to moisture incursion in MP. However, these systems are not strong enough to give widespread showers to the state. The weather pattern may change from next week and a good amount of rain is expected in MP Sunday onwards, officials added.

The day temperature in Bhopal on Wednesday was recorded at 35.0 degrees Celsius, three degrees more than normal mark, while night temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees more than normal mark. Wind direction in the city was easterly while average wind speed was 16 kilometres per hour.

The places that recorded showers between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm in the day were Indore 12.4 mm, Ujjain 16.0 mm, Hoshangabad 7.0 mm, Malanjkhand 0.6 mm, Sagar 19.0 mm, Dhar 2.0 mm while Sheopurkalan recorded 3.0 mm showers.

In the forecast for Bhopal on Thursday, the met has stated in a release, there would be partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunder development and light rain. Day and night temperature in the city would be at 37 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively, while average wind speed will be 16 kmph.

In the forecast for state, met has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for places including Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani and Alirajpur districts. Warning of thunder and lightning was issued for Bhopal, Shahdol, Hoshangabad, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Chambal divisions.
