Madhya Pradesh: Students in exam halls, private tutors in govt rest houses in Bhind

BHOPAL: While board examinees in MP's Bhind district write their papers in school, private tutors in the area will be sitting it out at government guest houses or circuit houses until the time-out bell rings. The initial order was to make them wait at police stations, which was amended late Thursday night.

The district administration has given this order to prevent mass cheating, which Bhind is infamous for. The MP Class 12 board exams began on Thursday, and Class 10 students will have their first paper on Friday.

The district education officer (DEO) has written to all block officers to issue a list of tuition and coaching teachers and make sure that "they are present at the police station" for the period board exams are in progress. Pictures of the order have gone viral.

Hundreds or students are caught cheating during board exams in this district every year. Bhind accounts for 90% of the cases of copying, said officials.

Teachers are threatened with dire consequences by ‘cheating mafia’ , said a local resident, adding that many of them go on leave during exams to avoid trouble.

Cheating is so rampant here that students from neighbouring districts of UP and MP take admission here with an assurance from the ‘cheat mafia’ to clear board exams. It’s a deep-rooted nexus of school owners, education department and local administration, say officials.
