BHOPAL: Six people were arrested on Wednesday for pelting stones on a marriage procession of a dalit in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. Stones were pelted on the procession as it passed near a place of worship.
The incident took place at Mataji Mohalla in Jeerapur town at around 11 pm on Tuesday night when a baraat (wedding procession) of a local resident’s daughter had come from Susner in Chhindwara district. While the procession was passing, there was a dispute between some youths and the baraatis over the sound of DJ system. This led to arguments and later stones were pelted by a group of unidentified people.
A police patrol team that was close by, reached the spot as soon as information reached them and took charge of the situation. Few baraatis who had sustained minor injuries were taken to a local hospital. One of them received injury near eye and was rushed to district hospital by police.
“So far six people were arrested, three others were detained and interrogated. No person sustained any serious injuries. One person, who had an injury near his eye was taken to district hospital where he was discharged after check-up. The situation in Jeerapur is normal. In the night too, the police teams acted swiftly and did not let the situation go out of hand. The baraat also reached the venue and returned to Susner in the morning. The accused were identified and arrested.,” SP Rajgarh, Pradeep Sharma told TOI.
