BHOPAL: Taking stern action on complaints of husbands of newly elected sarpanchs working on behalf of their elected wives, Rewa district administration has issued notice for removing a sarpanch from her post.
In the recent case, notice was issued to female sarpanch of Jorot village of Naigadhi janpad panchayat under section 40 of Panchayati Raj Act.
This section of the Act empowers the administration for removing sarpanchs from their posts if violations are found.
District collector, Rewa Manoj Pushp said, “The recent case is of Naigadhi janpad but a couple of more such actions have also been taken. We have ensured from the first day that there should be no proxies. Malpractices like this defeat the purpose of women empowerment.”
Even during the certificate distribution of elected representatives only those who had won were allowed. There are standing orders that only representatives will themselves approach officials for any work related to their panchayat.
This is to ensure that those representatives who have won get exposure and develop confidence which in turn will lead to true empowerment.”
Sources said that Savitri Sen had won the elections for the post of sarpanch from Jorot village. But her husband Bhagwandin Sen used to interfere in the works and he even inspected aanganwadis and attended gram sabha meetings.
A report was sought by district panchayat CEO from the Naigadhi janpad panchayat CEO, and on the basis of the report, notice under section 40 has been issued, added our sources on the condition of anonymity.
