BHOPAL: Sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia turned emotional after receiving Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Indian hockey team member Vivek Sagar at Bhopal airport. She reverently touched Vivek’s Olympic medal to her forehead.
It was Scindia who built MP Hockey Academy in 2006 where Vivek trained.
While greeting Vivek at the airport, Scindia said, “For this, we had developed our academies 15 years ago. Vivek’s medal will motivate others to make the state and country proud in other games also.” She had tears in her eyes when Vivek gave his Olympic medal to her.
She said, “Vivek has touched the sky. He has become a role model for other players. He has proved that MP can also win at Olympics.”
Moved, Vivek said, “Thanks for giving such support to a player like me. It was impossible to without your support. I will change this medal to gold the next time.”
Scindia said several other athletes are working equally hard to make the nation proud at the international level. “Vivek’s medal is just a beginning. MP has produced several international talents and will keep doing so. Our academies have become a centre stage for producing talent in the country,” she said.
