KHARGONE: The Khargone district police on Wednesday registered a case against two youths suspected of attacking SP Siddhartha Choudhary with a sword and pistol during the April 10 riots and announced a Rs 10,000 reward for their arrest.
The bounty has been announced on a whopping 104 other suspects, who are wanted for arson and violence during which a Ram Navami procession was attacked. IPS officer Ankit Jaiswal identified the duo as Waseem alias Mohsin and Irfan, aged 18 to 20 years. They were booked on the complaint of the SP's gunman, who had accompanied Choudhary to Sanjay Nagar during the violence, Jaiswal said.
"Irfan ran with a sword to attack the crowd, but was stopped by SP Choudhary. The SP's thumb was injured in the skirmish. Irfan fled and the SP chased him. Wasim, who was covering Irfan, fired the shot that hit the SP in his left leg. His gunman and driver were also injured in this incident," Jaiswal added.
‘Strong evidence’ on suspects behind murder on riot day
Jaiswal said police have also identified a man who is seen in videos hurling stones from a rooftop. “Another person, Kapil Verma, has been arrested for swinging a sword at an old woman, injuring her in the cheek,” the officer said.
Police have found strong evidence on those who murdered Ibrez on the day of the riots, Jaiswal said, adding that they will be arrested soon.Police have registered 63 cases of arson and rioting. As many as 160 people have been arrested so far, two of whom have been booked under National Security Act. The bounty is on 106 others who are on the run.Khar- gone’s acting SP Rohit Kashwani said that a reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for information leading to the arrest of 106 people wanted for violence.
