Madhya Pradesh: Radio ID cards for judges & court staff in security overhaul

BHOPAL/JABALPUR: Madhya Pradesh high court Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq has ordered an overhaul of security in courts across the state in the wake of the shooting in Delhi’s Rohini court, where gunmen posing as lawyers murdered a gangster, and violent incidents in some MP courts.

A special committee, constituted by Chief Justice Rafiq to strengthen security in district courts and the three benches of high court, has decided to issue radio frequency identity cards (RFIC) to the chief justice, judges, court staff and advocates.

The ID cards will carry photographs and personal information. Entry will be allowed only if sensors greenlight the RFI card.

On the recommendation of the committee, the chief justice has issued SOPs to be followed in courts across the state. Litigants and other persons visiting courts must go through a physical check. RFICs will also be issued for the vehicles of advocates. The identity card issued to an advocate will be acceptable in courts across the state.

The Bar Council of India will issue RFICs to advocates, and bar associations recognised by Bar Council of MP will issue cards for their vehicles. Identity cards to staff of the principal bench of MP high court at Jabalpur will be issued by the office of registrar general and of the other two benches at Indore and Gwalior by the principal registrar. Identity cards to staff of district courts will be issued by the office of district and sessions judge.
