BHOPAL: The model code of conduct came into force in Madhya Pradesh on Friday afternoon with the announcement of panchayat poll dates. Voting will be held in three phases on June 25, July 1 and July 8. On July 14, results of sarpanchs, panchs and janpad panchayat members will be announced, and those of district panchayat members will be out on July 15. Dates for urban body polls are likely to be announced by June 1.
Chouhan chairs 1st party poll meet
Soon after the panchayat poll dates were announced on Friday, the BJP state unit called a meeting of its election management committee. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president VD Sharma inaugurated the party's election management office inside the BJP headquarters.
"The party and workers are fully prepared for panchayat and civic body elections. Our workers will create history," the CM said, adding: "We want good and true people's representatives to elected who work for the welfare of poor."
"The governments of PM Narendra Modi and CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan have transformed lives through welfare schemes in 23,000 panchayats of MP," Sharma said.
He appointed state general secretary Bhagwandas Sabnani as convener of the election management committee while Pradeep Tripathi is co-convener. Members include Rajneesh Agarwal, Lokendra Parashar, Shailendra Sharma, Dr Hitesh Vajpayee.
