Madhya Pradesh: Opposition parties stage protest against govt’s ‘anti-people’ policies, says former CM Digvijaya Singh

BHOPAL: Former chief minister and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-RSS combine.

Addressing a joint protest by opposition parties led by Congress at Neelam Park here in the state capital, Digvijaya said, “This will be a lengthy fight. We are fighting those who are taught hatred from Shishu Mandirs. It is because of their hatred that there are communal riots in the country. The British knew that Hindus and Muslims cannot be kept united. That is why they took V D Savarkar to the Andaman jails. He did exactly what the British rulers actually wanted.”

At the joint meeting of 19 opposition parties held in August under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, it was decided that there is no alternative but for the opposition parties to unite for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024. From September 20 to 30, these opposition parties are scheduled to hold demonstrations against BJP in different states.

On Saturday, the state Congress-NCP-CPI-CPM jointly held a protest against ruling BJP’s “anti-people policies” at Neelam Park here.

The senior Congress leader also said that like the BJPRSS, there was also the Muslim League that did not participate in the fight for India’s freedom. Digvijaya claimed that it was Savarkar who first made the demand for a separate Hindustan and Pakistan. “Next, it was Muslim League that asked for it”, he said.
