BHOPAL: In a horrifying first in Madhya Pradesh, two persons, including a minor girl, were injured after they were attacked with acid in MP's Raisen district late Friday evening, apparently because they didn't support the candidate backed by the attackers in panchayat polls.
Another minor girl was injured in the scuffle, and one of the accused has suffered acid burns as well.
The incident took place in Jhirpani village, around 80km from Raisen district headquarters and 150km from Bhopal. Police named the victims as Dayaram Lodhi and two of his nieces.
Subdivisional police officer Rajesh Tiwari said, "There is no polling booth in the village but there was some dispute between the accused and the victim over poll-related issues. After voting was over, the accused attacked Dayaram in the village."
According to police, the accused - Harikesh Lodhi, Sachin Lodhi and Raju Lodhi - are involved in the dairy business in which they use acid. On Saturday evening, the accused filed a complaint of assault against Dayaram, said police.
"The victims have alleged in their complaint that the accused threw acid on them. Things will be clear in our investigation. Meanwhile, the three accused have been booked for acid attack and other sections of IPC. We are looking for them," Tiwari said.
Sources said the victims were first taken to Sultanganj primary health centre, 17km away, where doctors referred them to Begumganj community health centre, another 25km away. After primary treatment, they were sent to Raisen district hospital, 80km away, where they were finally admitted.
