MHOW/INDORE: The prestigious Army War College (AWC) in Mhow went into complete lockdown on Thursday after at least 11 officers – both training and directing staff – tested positive for Covid-19.
The officers were part of a study group that had recently returned from a higher command course after touring Western and South Western Commands, say sources.
Mhow commandant-administration Col AK Mohanty said, “Seven officers posted at AWC were sent for Covid test, out of which five were found to be positive on Wednesday. Samples of 20 more officers were sent after that, and six more tested positive on Thursday.”
The Army has ordered a complete lockdown of the college. No one is allowed in or out. The campus lockdown will be in force till further orders, Col Mohanty said.
Indore district chief medical and health officer, Dr BS Saitya, who visited Mhow Military Hospital and the AWC campus on Thursday evening, said “All those tested Covid-19 positive are asymptomatic and under isolation. Also, all of them are fully vaccinated.”
60 samples sent for RTPCR test
The officials tested positive after a batch of 115 officers returned from training in other states.
They were put in quarantine and tested as part of procedure.
“The outbreak was reported on September 21, when five persons tested positive and since then other people have been tested,” said Dr Saitya, adding that 60 samples have been sent for RT-PCR test at the virology laboratory of MGM Medical College.
