Madhya Pradesh: Man poisons wife, keeps her locked for five days awaiting death, held

BHOPAL: A man fed poison to his wife and kept her locked inside a room for five days waiting for her to die.

This incident was reported from Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh where police arrested the accused and his father on charges of murder.

The 28-year-old woman was admitted to a private hospital under serious condition on May 18 by her husband alleging that she attempted suicide. She died two days later.

Post-mortem report confirmed poison as the cause of her death.

Police started probe into the suicide angle and later during investigation, they came across other facts through her parents and relatives.

They were informed about an extra-marital relationship between the woman and her brother-in-law.

Investigators also found that both were caught in a compromising position by her husband last month. She was then forced to file a case of rape against the brother-in-law, who was subsequently arrested and sent to jail.

This wasn’t enough for her husband. He started assaulting her. On May 13, he took her outside for a tour near Bargi Dam pretending everything to be normal.

There he fed her sugarcane juice laced with poison and brought her home.

He kept her locked inside a room waiting for her death, said police. She started vomiting late at night, but he didn’t take her to the hospital.

On day 6, when her condition worsened and he was sure of her death, he took her to the hospital were died after 48 hours, said police.

Police arrested her husband after collecting necessary evidence along with his father for supporting him. Investigators say that the accused and his father tried to mislead the police saying that it was a case of suicide. However, her parents shared important inputs with them leading to the arrest.
