BHOPAL: Electricity prices increased by 13 paise per unit effective from October 1 due to change in fuel cost adjustment charges.
For the quarter between July and September negative fuel cost adjustment of minus 20 paise per unit was allowed by the Madhya Pradesh electricity regulatory commission.
This meant that for every unit of electricity consumer had to pay a reduced energy charge, it reduced by -20 paise per unit.
Now for the quarter between October and December, MPERC had ordered a fuel cost adjustment charge of minus 7 paise per unit, i.e., -20 paise was increased by 13 paise per unit.
For a consumer who uses one air-conditioner, two fans and other essentials and incurs a monthly consumption of around 425 units, this change in FCA will lead to an increase of around Rs 55 per month.
Earlier, with minus 20 paise per unit FCA the power bill of a consumer with 425 units of monthly energy consumption used to get a reduced bill by around Rs 85 at the rate of -20 paise per unit, now with -7 paise per unit it will only be reduced by Rs 30 per month. Experts believe that the overall change will lead to more than 2% in cost of energy.
“The new FCA along with other costs and duties will lead to an overall increase of around 2.6%.
The negative FCA announced for previous quarter was propagated as tariff relief but it was just an eyewash”, retired additional chief engineer of MP GENCO, Rajendra Agarwal said.
