Madhya Pradesh former CM Digvijaya Singh thanks SC judges for questioning sedition law

BHOPAL: Former chief minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Friday thanked Supreme Court judges for questioning the continuance of the British era sedition law.

Taking to twitter on Friday, the senior Congress leader said, “I congratulate Hon SC to question the need to continue with the archaic Sedition Law which Britishers brought to silence the voice of Mahatma Gandhi and those fighting for India’s Independence. Thank You Your Lordships.”

He thanked the apex court judges who on Thursday asked for Centre’s opinion on the provision of Section 12A of IPC which was used as a sedition law against top freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi by the British Raj. The three-judge bench headed by chief justice of India NV Ramana said they were concerned over the misuse of the law and asked if we still need a colonial law 75 years after independence.
