Amid the ongoing political crisis in Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress government is teetering on the brink of collapse, Governor Lalji Tandon will arrive in Bhopal on Thursday night from Lucknow.

Mr. Tandon, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, had left for Lucknow on March 8 for celebrating Holi. Tandonji is going to return around 9.30 p.m., a Raj Bhavan official said.

The Kamal Nath government, which assumed office in December 2018, plunged into crisis after a rebellion by a section of Congress MLAs earlier this week.

Of the 22 rebel MLAs, 19 law-makers, including half a dozen ministers, had emailed their resignation letters to Mr. Tandon two days ago.

Ministers Tulsi Silawat, Govind Singh Rajput, Prabhuram Choudhry, Imarti Devi, Pradyumna Singh Tomar and Mahendra Singh Sisodia had emailed their letters on Tuesday.

Other MLAs who have resigned include Hardeep Singh Dang, Rajyavardhan Singh, Brajendra Singh Yadav, Jaspal Jajji, Suresh Dhakad, Jaswant Jatav, Santram Sironia, Munnalal Goyal, Ranveer Singh Jatav, O.P.S. Bhadoria, Kamlesh Jatav, Giriraj Dandotiya, Raghuraj Kansana, Aidalsingh Kansana and Biasahulal Singh.

Most of the rebel Congress MLAs are said to be supporters of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who quit the ruling party on Tuesday and joined the BJP the next day.
