Madhya Pradesh: Covid infections rise from 11 to 19 districts in December

BHOPAL: 18 new cases of Covid-19 infection were reported across Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The seven-day moving average of new infection is as high as it was in July.

The more worrisome fact the experts point out is the widespread nature of new infections. At the end of November cases were limited to 11 districts. Now, the number has doubled and 19 districts have reported sporadic cases in the last fortnight.

On Thursday, Katni and Khargone reported two and one new cases of the infection respectively. It was the first infection cases in both districts in almost four weeks. Narsinghpur district also reported a new infection case – first in 17-days. Hoshangabad, Singrauli, Alirajpur, Sagar and Ratlam are among districts which have reported new infection recently in case in over a month. Damoh district is the only exception in the list which has not reported new infection since November 22.

Statistical count of cases remain higher in urban cities. Indore reported 8 new cases of the infection, Bhopal added five new cases on Thursday. Narsinghpur and Ujjain also reported one new case of the infection, taking the daily tally to 18.

So far in December 263 new Covid-19 cases have been reported.171 of these are considered as active cases, or people undergoing treatment for Covid-19. Death toll remained unchanged at 10528 on Thursday.

Overall, 782733 people who contracted Covid-19 infection have recovered. Overall, 793433 people have been infected in MP since the pandemic began.
