Madhya Pradesh: Coolers banned in Jabalpur as dengue cases up

JABALPUR: In the eye of the increasing dengue cases in Jabalpur, the municipal corporation has banned use of coolers for a month.

A total of 177 cases of dengue have been reported so far in 13 days of September alone, said district malaria officer, Dr Rakesh Praharia. “However no deaths have been reported so far”, he added.

On Monday, JMC commissioner, Sandeep GR has issued orders that coolers should not be used for the next one month in the city. Official sources said that the move was taken as the field teams noticed that majority of the larvae are being found in the coolers used at homes.

The order also said that action would be taken against people, if coolers are found to be used by the field teams.

Joint teams of civic body and the health department visited several areas across the 16 municipal zones. Fogging and larvae destruction activities were carried out and people were advised on measures to tackle the spread of vectorborne diseases, said sources.
