BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday urged people to participate and ensure success of the state-wide “Dengue se jung-Janta ke sang’ campaign that he launched on Wednesday.
Vector borne ailments especially dengue has increased in the last two months across the state. The CM urged people to take precautionary measures and collectively eradicate larvae breeding.
“Dengue cases have been reported in some districts. We can control it by taking precautionary measures. We need to collectively participate in this campaign,” he said as he reminded people also about getting vaccinated for protection against Covid-19.
According to estimates, there have been five deaths attributed to dengue in Madhya Pradesh this season. Till July, there were 291 cases of dengue in MP in 2021, according to National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP). In August and September, another 2,200 dengue cases were reported. In comparison, 809 dengue cases were reported in 2020 with zero deaths. In 2019, MP had reported 4,189 dengue cases and two deaths, going by NVBDSP data.
The spurt in malaria, dengue, chikungunya cases has stretched the urban development & health department resources away from Covid vaccination. While launching the drive, the CM fumigated a locality and put Gambusia fish which eat larvae of the mosquito in a pond near the programme site in Nehru Nagar.
