BHOPAL: A civilian garrison engineer of Military Engineering Services (MES) in Gwalior was arrested by CBI's Bhopal unit in a bribery case on Wednesday night.
The accused, D P Chaturvedi, was caught accepting Rs 50,000 from the complainant, said sources. He is posted in the Murar Army Cantonment.
CBI's anti-corruption branch (ACB) had received a complaint on Thursday that the officer was demanding Rs 4.5 lakh as bribe for releasing payment of a tender awarded to a Jhansi-based contractor, say sources.
Property papers worth Rs 1.5cr found on MES official's premises
After verification of the complaint, CBI laid a trap. An employee of the company was sent with the first installment. Chaturvedi was arrested soon after he took the money into his residence, said official sources.
Chaturvedi was arrested and his official and residential premises searched. CBI officials said they found papers for two plots worth Rs 1.5 crore and around Rs 10 lakh in cash. He has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
