Madhya Pradesh: CBI registers FIR against nine in Nemawar mass killings

BHOPAL: CBI has registered case against nine people in connection with the Nemawar mass murder case. The brutal killings of five members of a tribal family in Dewas district had created a storm in the state, with the ruling party facing heavy criticism from the opposition and tribal organisations.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh had shot a letter to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan urging him to hand over the Nemawar case to CBI or SIT for detailed investigations. He also asked for court hearings on a daily basis similar to the Nirbhaya case so that the guilty can be sentenced within three months.

He had said that if the case is handed over to the CBI or a SIT is constituted for investigation; only then will the culprits of the brutal murders be sentenced to death and the bereaved kin get justice.

Bodies of five members of a family – Mamta Bai – the mother, her two daughters Rupali (21), Divya (14), and two cousins Pooja (15) and Pawan (14) were found 48 days after their murder in 12-feet deep graves in the farmhouse of their alleged killer. Mamta allegedly went missing on May 14.

Five members of a family were strangulated and their bodies dumped in the pit that was dug in advance. Accused, Surendra Chauhan, allegedly had an affair with one of the victims, 21-year-old Rupali. The skeletons of the five victims who had been missing since May 13 were exhumed from an agricultural field in Nemawar, in Dewas district on June 30.

Congress had alleged government’s patronage to the accused while demanding a CBI inquiry into the case. Taking a dig at Congress leader Kamal Nath who visited Nemawar and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case, home minister Narottam Mishra had alleged that this reflects Congress' vulture politics.

Former chief minister, Kamal Nath, who visited the place and met the victims' family on Monday, hit out at the BJP government alleging that criminal elements dominate the state. Nath also said that no action was taken against the accused and the government was trying to suppress the matter.

Reacting to Nath's statement, BJP state chief Vishnu Dutt Sharma said that Congress playing politics on the incident is condemnable. He also said that Congress allegations against the government were baseless.

Thereafter MP government had requested central government for transferring of FIR No 132/21 of PS, Nemawar, Dewas, MP registered u/s 363 of IPC (enhanced section 302, 364, 376, 376(2)(n), 120-B, 201 of IPC and section 5(l)/6 POCSO Act, 2012, Section 3(2) (v) and 3(2) (va) of SC/ST Atrocities (P) Act, 1989 and section 66B, 66C of IT Act, 2002 to CBI.
