Madhya Pradesh cabinet approves scheme for financial aid to orphans

BHOPAL: State cabinet headed by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday decided to start a financial aid scheme for children leaving the childcare and juvenile homes for orphans.

Chief Minister's Bal Ashirwad Yojana will provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per month to those leaving the childcare institutions after attaining the age of 18 years.

Financial assistance of Rs 5000 will also be given to orphans living with their relatives and guardians till the age of 18 years.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, home minister Narottam Mishra explained, "This is an ambitious scheme for children who live in these institutions. Cabinet approved the scheme to provide financial assistance to children who leave the childcare institutions.

Financial assistance will be given for furthering their education or vocational training till the age of 24 years. Also, those who enter courses through NEET, JEE or CLAT will be given Rs 5,000 per month as livelihood expenses."

The home minister said that under the scheme, an additional financial aid of Rs 2,000 will be given in the joint account of the legal guardian of the eligible children for a minimum period of one year and a maximum of 18 years. "These children will also be brought under the Ayushman scheme," Mishra said.

Cabinet decided to start a Mukhya Mantri Nari Samman Kosh (Chief Minister's Respect for Women Fund). This will be managed by the Madhya Pradesh Women's Finance and Development Corporation.

The state government said that 2% interest subsidy will be given on business loans approved by banks for women under the State Rural Livelihood Mission, National Urban Livelihood Mission, Mukhya Mantri Udhyam Kranti Yojana and Chief Minister's Women Empowerment Scheme.

Home minister Narottam Mishra said, this fund will support women running the self-help groups.
