BHOPAL: After a series of protests by the main opposition Congress against price hike of petrol and diesel, BJP Maihar MLA Narayan Tripathi has raised a voice of concern over rising inflation and cautioned that it could jeopardise prospects of the saffron party during the forthcoming bypolls in Madhya Pradesh.
“It is very important for the (BJP) government to pay attention to the rising inflation because the price of diesel and petrol is at an all-time high. As a result, the farmers, unemployed youths and common man all are facing severe problems in day-to-day life,” said Tripathi.
The BJP MLA also said, “The electricity department should streamline the system of power supply, including its lines and transformers so that people do not suffer frequent power-cuts. Escalated power tariffs are also a matter of concern,” he added.
When asked about the impact of increasing inflation on the upcoming polls, Tripathi said, “If the situation does not improve, bypolls will not be favourable for BJP. The government will have to act quickly,” he cautioned.
The state is likely to witness a tough fight in the upcoming bypolls for three assemblies - Raigaon (Satna), Prithvipur (Tikamgarh) and Jobat (Jhabua) and one Khandwa Lok Sabha seat.
Tripathi also wrote a letter to Railway minister Piyush Goyal urging him to reinstate the monthly ticket holder (MTH) scheme.
The BJP MLA, who voted in favour of Congress in support of a bill tabled in the assembly in July 2019, has recently demanded relief for transgender people. He had also urged CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide relief to agitating health workers in the interest of public safety.
