Madhya Pradesh: 59-year-old professor held for raping PhD scholar

JABALPUR: A PhD scholar at Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur has accused a professor of raping her for six months on the threat to fail her in the examination.

Belbagh police station registered a case on the basis of her complaint and arrested the accused.

"She has complained that the accused had been harassing her for two years. Around six months ago, he went to her rented home, where she lived alone, and raped her by threatening to fail her in the exam," said SI Sandhya Chandel.

"Thereafter, he continued to rape her. She complained to police once earlier but withdrew it after the professor apologised. However, on August 16, the professor again went to her house and raped her after which she filed a complaint," SI Chandelsaid.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
