Madhya Pradesh: 3 killed, 10 injured after explosion at illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Damoh

BHOPAL: An explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing facility in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh, resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals and left 10 others with injuries, according to an official statement.

This illegal firecracker production unit was located within a residential area near the Purana Pool locality in the city. As soon as authorities were alerted to the incident, the police swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations.

Damoh's Superintendent of Police, Sunil Tiwari, informed ANI, "An unauthorized firecracker factory was operating in the Purana Pul area, where firecrackers were being manufactured. On Tuesday, an explosion occurred, leading to the collapse of the building's roof and the entrapment of several individuals under the debris. Regrettably, three people lost their lives, and 10 others sustained injuries, currently receiving medical care."

The ongoing rescue operation continues to work at the site. Tiwari emphasized the factory's complete illegitimacy, as no permits had ever been granted for firecracker manufacturing within residential areas.

Furthermore, Damoh Collector Mayank Agarwal has directed a magisterial inquiry into the incident, with further actions to be taken based on the inquiry's findings.
