INDORE: Even though people of age group 18-44 years were only allowed in May to take Covid-19 vaccine, they constituted for over 56% of total inoculation in Indore.
The records of the immunization office showed that the district has administered 17.40 lakh doses to people aged between 18-44, of the total 30.79 lakh inoculations in the district.
District immunization in-charge Dr Tarun Gupta said, “The age group 18-44 was allowed to take vaccine doses around four and a half months after the beginning of the mass drive in May.”
But, because of education and awareness among the young population, the turnout has been huge, he said.
This group also comprised around two-third of 28 lakh population in the district. The inoculation of this group is most important to achieve the 100% target, said Dr Gupta.
The Covid-19 vaccination drive was started on January 16 this year in a limited manner while allowing vaccination of health workers. Later, it opened up for frontline workers, people aged above 60, people between 45-60 with comorbidities, then all of age group 45-60, and finally for all above 18 years of age in a phase wise manner as the vaccine production increased.
The district has so far inoculated around 87.47% of all 28.07 lakh people aged above 18 with first dose of Covid-19 vaccines till Saturday while the complete vaccination is in 22.04% of the eligible population.
