KHARGONE: A heated argument over a night-cricket match among boys turned ugly when a a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a youth in Maheshwar town of MP on Wednesday night. The accused had bought the knife from an online e-commerce platform.
The police have arrested four for murder, but stopped short of booking them under the Arms Act, claiming that the knife blade fell within legal limits prescribed under law. The incident took place at at 9pm when one Faizan and Rehan were playing cricket with their friends in Kamani Gate area, Khargone SP Siddharth Choudhary told TOI. A ball hit by Rehan struck one Roshan. Infuriated, Roshan and his friends beat up Rehan with a bat, forcing him to flee. But the attackers caught Faizan & inflicted four deep stab wounds.
Faizan died on way to the hospital.
Arms Act not invoked against the accused
Maheshwar police station in-charge Pankaj Tiwari said that Roshan had bought the said knife from an online e-commerce platform for Rs 250.
"Since the blade length is less than 4 inches, the knife can't be categorized as illegal under the Arms Act. Thus, the Arms Act was not invoked against the accused," he said. The incident sparked tension in the area. Police was deployed in strength to prevent any flare-up, said SP Choudhary. Police arrested Roshan and three others, including a minor. The accused were produced before a judge and sent on judicial remand.Faizan's body was later handed over to his family. His final rites were performed on Thursday.
