JABALPUR: An 11-year-old girl was gang-raped by two of her father’s friends in Jabalpur around a week ago. Her parents didn’t go to police, but a neighbour dialed 100 when she overheard conversations about the rape. Both the accused have been arrested and booked under Pocso Act.
The girl, a class 7 student, was alone at home on December 7 when the two men came to meet him. “There was no one in the house except for her. Taking advantage of this, they took her to the backyard and raped her,” said additional SP Sanjay Agarwal.
Her family did not file a complaint with police, but somehow word got out. “A woman called Dial 100 and said she had heard it being discussed in the locality,” Ranjhi police station in-charge Vijay Paraste said.
Both accused in their mid-twenties
The woman thought it was her duty to inform police, especially since she’s a woman. When we contacted her kin, they said she hadn’t been talking much for the past four-five days. Women police officers counselled her, won her trust and then she narrated her ordeal,” Ranjhi police station in-charge Vijay Paraste said.
Based on her statement, police registered a case on December 11 and arrested the two accused. They are in their mid-twenties and one of them is married. They have been booked under IPC, SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act and Pocso Act”. The child has been medically examined.
